Cricket Returns After Lockdown Restrictions Relaxed

Post by BirlinghamAdmin »

Message from David Clasen, Birlingham Cricket Club

Birlingham Cricket Club returned to action in the Worcestershire County League last Saturday with an away fixture at Harvington CC. This week (25th July) we are at home to Cutnall Green. This year we compete in a regionalised league of six teams (ten games). Within our league there are four groups, with the winners of each competing in a semi-final and ultimately a final played on 26th September. We are at present putting together a fixture list for the remainder of the season; we hope to have bar facilities in line with Government guidelines. Please come and support your local team. The fixture list is available at http://www.birlingham.org/docs/bcc_fixtures_2020.pdf.

As previously reported, the club has been holding net sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ironically after the fine weather during lockdown, the weather has spoilt a few. If you see us netting/playing please come and join in/support.

On Saturday 8th July we played a hastily arranged friendly against a Worcester Veteran XI. It was a very strange game, under the new rules. Clean ball/sanitise hands every six overs, no access to changing rooms and bring your own teas (to name a few)! The weather was excellent and the ground was a picture, the result immaterial, with the exception for Lee Haffield, making his maiden club 50.

We hope to organise some social events for the remainder of the season. Please contact me with any suggestions or willingness to participate - watch this space for further notifications.
