Results are in from the Flower & Produce Show –
see below – and the seed exchange is underway for next year.
Editor’s note: As most of you know already, I am
attempting to leave Birlingham, once again, next week. However, I shall continue
to edit the News emails and update the website, for the time being at least. I
will be back at my office in the village on a weekly basis and contactable by
email at all times so please continue to keep me up to date with information on
Birlingham events and other items of local interest. Thanks to all those who
have contributed so far.

The Flower & Produce Show last Saturday (7th
September) had the highest number of entries for several years and the
standard of those entries improves every year. The Show Committee would like to
thank the judges for doing an excellent job: John Taylor, Simon Taylor, Paul
Groom, Janet Stott and Lesley Catherall, and Ruth Keys for judging the hanging
baskets. Thanks to Chris Hermon for presenting the prizes and Nic Carson for
being a very persuasive auctioneer. Thanks are also given to donors of the
prizes for the raffle: Birlingham Nurseries, Number 8 Community Arts Centre, The
Swan Inn, Sadie Yeomans, Joan Hollier, Clare Kew, Alan Williams and Jean
Williams.
Once the final accounts are produced and the cups engraved, the Committee
will be looking ahead to next year's show. If anyone has any suggestions for
improvements for next year please contact a member of the Committee. The Show
will be held on Saturday 6th September 2014.
Meanwhile, the seed exchange is continuing to
operate from the phone box. The exchange will only be successful if more seeds
are added, so please feel free to try some of the seeds on offer but leave your
own contributions if you can.
