Sadly, the beautiful cedar tree in the churchyard is dying. Following full consultation with a tree surgeon the only thing that can be done is to take it down. I’m sure we shall all miss this magnificent tree, but the PCC would like to offer anyone in the village and beyond the opportunity to buy a slice of this lovely wood to make into a garden table or other garden decoration. All funds raised would go towards the church improvement project, which means that the legacy of the cedar tree will live on.

The PCC are currently exploring the financial viability of doing this, so it’s important that they know roughly how many people would like to participate. Please reply to angela.fitch@btinternet.com if you’re interested.

Some of the Sunday Services at St James’s Church don’t have hymns. This is because occasionally the Church doesn’t have an organist. If you play a musical instrument – it doesn’t have to be the organ or piano – and could join the services on an ad hoc basis, they would love to hear from you. This opportunity is ideal for people who play instruments that can be carried to the church, so probably not for harpists, but would suit most instruments. If you are interested in helping out, please reply to angela.fitch@btinternet.com.
