Here’s your final round-up of news before Christmas.

1. Carol Service, Sunday 18th December
The Carol Service takes place on Sunday 18th December at 6.00pm in St James’ Church. Readings will be done by representatives of some of the village organisations.
This year the service will be followed by mulled wine and mince pies in the church.
A reminder that the Christingle and Blessing of the Crib will be held in the church on Saturday 24th December at 4.00pm (with Joanna Williams officiating). Christmas Communion (with Rev. Leonard Burn) takes place at 10.30am on Christmas Day.
We are sorry to announce of the death of Anthony Porter, brother of Harry Porter.
The funeral takes place in St James’ Church on Wednesday 21st December. The burial at 11.00am (family only) is followed by a service in the church at 11.30am.

Join us at the The Swan Inn for some festive fun and cheer over the Christmas period. Amongst our normal menu we shall feature Christmasy dishes and winter warmers at the bar, such as Hot Toddies and Mulled Wine. Our opening times are:
  • Christmas Eve: 11.30am – 3.00pm (food 12.00 noon – 2.00pm) & 6.00pm – 11.00pm (drinks only in evening)
  • Christmas Day: 12.00 noon – 2.00pm (drinks only)
  • Boxing Day to 30th December: Closed
  • New Year’s Eve: 7.00pm – 1.00am (food 7.00pm – 9.30pm). Limited tables left, reservations necessary
  • New Year’s Day: 12.00 noon – 4.00pm (food 12.00 noon – 3.00pm)

Dates for bin collections in Birlingham over the Christmas period are as follows:
  • Thursday 29th December: green bins (plus up to two extra clear recycling sacks) & brown bins
  • Wednesday 4th January, as normal: black bins (plus up to two extra refuse sacks)
Clear recycling sacks are available from the Birlingham phone box or from Pershore Civic Centre.

5. Lloyds Bank Letter Fraud
We have received a warning from West Mercia Police about a fraudulent letter being sent to Lloyds Bank customers. As Lloyds is one of only three remaining banks in Pershore, this may affect Birlingham residents.
The convincing letters being sent are a replica template from Lloyds and include their logo, address and signature from a customer service representative. The letter tells recipients that there have been some ‘unusual transactions’ on their personal account and asks them to call a number highlighted in bold to confirm they are genuine.

The following planning application has been received by the Parish Council:
  • The Manor House, Lower End: Change of use of land to equestrian to include construction of stabling block and access – as approved permission W/11/00443/CU but without compliance with condition no. 4 to allow the paddock and stable, or part thereof, to be used on non commercial terms, and condition 12 to allow the parking or storage of vehicles by the owners of the site.
