3. Birlingham Photography Club, Tuesday 7th May

Angela Fitch writes:
The next meeting of Birlingham Photography Club is on Tuesday 7th May, 7.00pm – 8.30pm, in Birlingham Village Hall.

What’s it like to take photos for the media? Former press photographer, Paul Felton, will make his first visit to BPC to talk about what it’s like to live in the world of local media.

With the advent of cameras in mobile phones it appears that everyone has the potential to submit images to the media and sometimes that’s exactly what the media is looking for – that ‘right time, right place’ thing.

But the life of a press photographer is much more than that. Long days in all weathers and the age-old challenge of making an interesting photograph out of something that might be quite boring or an acceptable image from a scene that is shocking. The art of press photography, Paul Felton has walked the walk, now he’s going to tell us all about it!

Anyone is welcome at BPC (under 18s to be accompanied), membership is on a ‘pay and play’ basis, £4pp per meeting, no annual membership fee. More information is available at www.birlinghamphotography.co.uk or email birlinghamphoto@btinternet.com.

5. European Elections, Thursday 23rd May

The European Elections are due to take place on Thursday 23rd May, at which seven MEPs will be elected for the West Midlands region. Voting is by party list – your vote will be for a party, rather than an individual, and the number of seats given to each party will be proportional to the number of votes they receive.

More information about the election will be available nearer the time.

6. Annual Parish Meeting & Parish Council Meeting, Wednesday 29th May

The Annual Parish Meeting takes place on Wednesday 29th May in Birlingham Village Hall at 7.00pm. Village organisations will be invited to submit reports about their activities over the past year. During the meeting there is an opportunity to express your views on local issues.
